Dwarves OP?

There’s often chat about dwarf teams being over powered in the game. Yet you don’t see many dwarf teams winning big championships. There’s some proper nerd out data by Mike Davies (sann0638) who uses tableau public to compile data on teams and wins. See for yourself.

I liked playing dwarves for a while on Blood Bowl 3 so I fancied a go on table top. This is not the first dwarf team I bought, I have four I think. No wait 5. oh boy. And this one team is painted. I printed them myself.

I like the idea of dwarves being grumpy union members who are likely to complain a lot about play conditions.

Dwarf Team

Colours

I’d recently watched the Hobbit films with the kids. There’s a lot of gold and mining references. Also there were dark greens, and earthy colours in the dwarf costumes I liked. Initially I started painting them thinking they’d be a lot darker, and a combination of gold, black and an earthy dark green. But it was getting messy so I cleaned it down to more green and liked the brighter shade.

Dwarf Greybeards 1

Greybeards have to have grey beards. Fact.

Dwarf Greybeards 2

All of them. Grey. Beards. Dwarf Greybeards 3 Dwarf Runners

These runners need more work. I think the leather doesn’t look quite right. I like the sculpts, they’re meant to be ligther and faster, relatively speaking for dwarves.

Dwarf Troll Slayers

I had a heap of trouble with the troll slayers. Initially the hair on both of them was looking great. But the connection to the base was weak and the legs kept snapping. Glue, snap, glue snap, paint, green stuff, glue. And so on. They are pretty busted and only just usable. The female player, my favourite of the two needs a new start and a fresh model. I have the mini printed ready. All the handling and glueing took it’s toll on the paint work and the hair. Booo.

Dwarf Blitzers

I think these blitzers are my favourite in the team. I love the Asterix The Gaul-esque winged helmets. With the bases on this team I was trying to do something clever and it failed. I tried sticking metal disks on top of the plastic bases, to create a lip or overhang intended to keep the Charlie Victor mark 1 skill rings in place, without them riding up and slipping off. It kiiiind of worked, but the metal disks kept coming detached from the plastic base. Also the metal bases were heavy and I think contributed to the troll slayer breakages. Resin prints are brital enough, but give the extra weight of metal and a slight drop is curtains. It was an experiment. You can see on one blitzer base where I resorted to glueing a skill ring in place, then later removed it.

I played the team once in a micro tournament with some friends. The team ‘won’. It was only three games. Mostly guard skills.

So, only four more dwarf teams to paint.
