About
I’m Pete — designer, nerd, dad, D&D-er. Online I mostly go by twoshedzz.
By background I’m a designer — a fine art degree first, then years at Capital Radio doing branding and website design, eventually running the design team there. From there I moved into the public sector, doing hands-on interaction design and plenty of time in the GOV.UK prototyping kit. These days I’m Head of Design at Defra, the UK’s environment department — a lot less hands-on building, a lot more of everything else.
I don’t paint any more, but the fine art habit never really left: my approach to most things is still to throw something rough onto the canvas and gradually work it into a shape, rather than plan it out up front. Turns out that’s a pretty good description of vibe-coding too.
Missing that hands-on making is honestly what kicked off this whole blog: an itch to start learning to code again. I gave up on that pretty quickly in the traditional sense — courses, tutorials, that kind of thing — and ended up vibe-coding with AI instead, directing rather than typing. It’s become more of a running diary since — a place to note down where I am on that slow, messy, occasionally uncomfortable journey, mostly so future-me has something honest to look back on. Typos and all. If you want the whole arc, the archive is chronological.
Outside of that, I’ve got two long-running obsessions:
- Blood Bowl. A tabletop game of miniature fantasy football played by orcs, elves, and worse. I collect (and very slowly paint) far more teams than any reasonable person should — a proper guilty pleasure, tracked on The Pile of Shame.
- Dungeons & Dragons, on and off for over 40 years. These days I run a small campaign for my son and his friends — The Ruins of Ethium — and I’ve started using AI to help write it up between sessions.
